Mooville Theatre Community Interest Company based in Birmingham, was set up in March 2014. Marlene McKenzie the CEO and founder, worked as a professional actor, Singer and workshop facilitator for 9 years, and gained a lot of experience and knowledge of the theatre world.
In 2010 Marlene was one of the 15 artists who were part of the Creative Leap Project, which got commissioned to kick start, their creative ideas. Here she had the opportunity to devise, direct and perform her one woman show LITE. A play that explored skin Lightening and identity and was real raw with her own personal experience of being too “dark skinned”. LITE then toured regionally in 2012, and through the success of the show, Marlene realised that she had more to say about other issues and wanted to do other projects that she was passionate about. Here Mooville Theatre CIC was created.
Mooville Theatre aims to empower, engage and enrich young people and vulnerable adults with the power of Drama. Mooville Theatre develops and delivers a range of projects to young people that tackle issues within their environment. Improve social cohesion, support individuals to embrace their talent and raise confidence and aspirations.
Mooville Theatre is currently working with a group of young girls on the Butterfly project. Helping them build confidence, learn soft skills, by using role play, discussion and getting the young girls to focus on the positives rather than the negatives of their lives.
We at Mooville Theatre are very excited and optimistic about the future and can’t wait to entertain and empower our young people of the future.
Please keep an eye out for projects that will be rolling out from September 2014. LITE will be touring in 2015/16 and Mooville summer school and drama hubs will be set up in local community settings.
