Tamar ‘Kush’ Francis explains the benefits of creating your own juices at home.

 

Did you know that 95% of the vitamins and enzymes our bodies need are found in the juice of raw fruits and vegetables? We would need to eat 2 lbs of carrots, 10-12 apples, or 8 lbs of spinach to get the same amount of nutrients you receive in one 16 oz juice.

 

When you drink juice, highly concentrated vitamins, minerals and enzymes rapidly enter the bloodstream absorbing all of the nutritional benefits of the fruits and vegetables and giving your digestive organs a much-needed rest. Not only will juicing facilitate weight loss, increase energy levels, strengthen immunity, build strong bones and a glowing complexion, it may also reduce chances of heart disease, cancer and strokes, three of the leading causes of death.

 

A growing body of research suggests that most vitamin supplements don’t help prevent chronic diseases, this is because the synthetic vitamin or mineral used in these supplements are only a laboratory simulation of the real thing. Natural, plant-based vitamins and minerals are more easily and completely absorbed by the body.

 

Green juice should ideally be consumed while the stomach is empty, for example,(first thing in the morning,) this way your body receives all the nutrients without any interference, but no matter when you drink it, it will do the goody(body) good, good good!

Don’t be put off by the colour or the look of the juice, you may be thinking ‘no sah’ that looks bitter and ‘taste bad’ but it doesn’t have to be! You can create your own version to suit your taste buds.

 

Here is a recipe that tastes great and is very simple to make.

 

All you need is:

Blender:

Spinach (large handful)

Kale: (handful)

Pineapple juice: (half glass)

(optional) Berries: (handful) 1 Kiwi : 1 Banana

 

STEP 1:Blend the ingredients together, (add pineapple juice to blender first to make the blending process smoother).

STEP 2: Enjoy!
