Start your marnin’ with MORINGA!

by Tamar ‘Kush’ Francis.

The Moringa Oleifera Plant is of African origin and had been given the name ‘miracle plant’ or ‘tree of life’. It has been in Jamaica since 1817 and can now be found world wide, including India, The Philippines and in South and Central America.

Every part of the tree can be used, from the leaves to the small and large pods, both of which can be eaten like nuts. It can be purchased as a supplement to be taken daily or in powder form which can be added to food and drink.

Ready to hear about all the wonderful benefits?...

Right, here goes: Moringa had seven times more vitamin C than oranges, four times more vitamin A than carrots, four times more calcium than milk and twice as much protein as milk. It has three times more iron than almonds, three times more vitamin C than spinach and three times the potassium found in bananas.

Moringa has a plethora of health benefits especially for those of us of the African/ Caribbean community who are no strangers to diabetes, high blood pressure and cancer. In the case of diabetes, the quantities of vitamin A found within Moringa acts as an antioxidant to convert beta-carotene, which in turn reduces the risk of blindness and abundance of vitamin C is very important for regulating effectively the production of insulin.

If you or someone you know is suffering from high blood pressure, then Moringa is just what the body needs. It contains four vital compounds your body requires for healthy blood pressure, these include Niacin A1&A5, vitamins B3 and B10. Magnesium, zinc, potassium and vitamin E are all crucial nutrients that the body needs in order to produce nitric acid, which enables the flood to easily flow through your blood vessels. Moringa provides all the above...and much more.

Cancer is a result of free radicals taking control of your body tissues and bloodstream, damaging your cells and causing cancer growth. The anti oxidants in moringa, squash all the free radical cells that increase your risk of certain types of this deadly disease.

You don’t have to be suffering from a disease to receive benefits from this plant, using this plant in any of its many forms, helps to relieve stress, improve your mood if your feeling mentally or physically drained. It’s anti-aging since the vitamin A helps to produce collagen and elastin, it aids in weight loss as it suppresses the appetite and maintains the flow of oxygen to brain, making it easier to release the genius in you!

This plant has certainly earned its title as the ‘ Tree of Life’, wouldn’t you agree? Why not add some to your green juice in the mornings?
