The Organisation of Black Unity aims to bring together Black people and organisations to build strategies and programmes for the Black community. The central work of the organisation is to build Departments in areas such as education, health and business to support the existing work that goes on in the community and to create new initiatives.
In order to build an organisation accountable to the grassroots of the community the Departments are created based around local areas. The work and budgets of the Departments are managed by Local Organising Committees for the area.
These Local Organising Committees report to the Central Committee of OBU, who is responsible for setting budgets and the overall coordination of the organisation.
Below is a diagram of how the structure of the organisation works. The number of Local Organising Committees and Departments are dependent on the chapters of the OBU that emerge and the members.
